Testo in unusual applications: Thermal imagers are much sought after in veterinary medicine

n the development of the thermal imager, Testo SE & Co. KGaA was actually targeting trade and industry. However, things often work out differently than you expect. The market launch of testo 880 not only exceeded our expectations and forecasts, it also presented Testo AGSE & Co. KGaA with totally new target groups. Thermal imagers are much sought after in veterinary medicine – up to now however, for many veterinarians, stud farms or even zoos, the acquisition of a high-performance thermal imager was often cost-prohibitive. With testo 880, all that has now changed.

Infrared thermography has long been at home in horse racing since an initial diagnosis cannot be achieved more quickly, and above all less intrusively, than with a thermal imager.

Possible centers of inflammation can be localized exactly with it. The danger to the animal can, for example, be identified even before a horse goes lame, allowing the owner and the veterinarian to take early preventive action. Infrared thermography is attractive for zoos too, where it has revolutionized day-to-day examinations on elephants and their companions. As a rule, a conventional examination of wild or very large animals is not only difficult, it can also be extremely dangerous. Whereas up to now a veterinarian had to get up close to a sick or injured animal, or even to anesthetize it, he can now safely gain a first impression from a distance with a thermal imager. Stress-free – for human and animal.
